The Context – Itis being observed that present generation is spending more time on social medialike facebook, whatsApp, Messenger and instagram rather than spending time onstudies interface they keep themselves devoid of knowledge and social awarenessand deviate from aim in life. Ironically they are already addicted to socialmedia before they realize their faults which is not less than an addiction inpresent times, this lead to showing downfall in their grades, carrier goals .

 The main purpose tobegin this practice by library is to divert students from this fake world ofselfies and likes addiction toward positive addiction where they are motivatedto share knowledge, science and general awareness.

Social media has negative effects but on the other hand itcan be a powerful resource for knowledge enrichment. The purpose is to use thispower to enlighten students and youth so that they can leads to right directionin their life and only the families, our society and country can lead to rightdirection in future which is the ultimate purpose of an education institution.

4. The practice:

                1. The college administration wanted tomotivate students toward digital literacy but due to lack of computer lab andinternet facility at college this seems almost impossible. The collegelibrarian Mr. Ajay Kumar Shrivas came with an idea to create and handle collegedigital platform successfully in form of Bloghttp://www.matakarmalibrarian.blogspot.in/ that was created on 5 June 2018 andface book pagehttps://www.facebook.com/Govt-Mata-Karma-Girls-CollegeMahasamund-494180280944884/for Digital collection was created on 22/07/2017. Every day post related toGeneral knowledge under title knowledge dos is being hosted on library blog andfacebook account.

               2.Social value related post are being hostedwhich are found from social medicals, newspaper and other success.

              3.Studentsand staff can use this blog 24X7.

Evidence of success –

             1.When these accounts have been launched onsocial platform a number of our students have joined the group and voluntarilystarted to share good information among them.

             2.Thecollege administration for further motivation planned to organize a generalawareness exam. This exam was conducted as a MCQ type General knowledgeCompetition in which 68 students have participated and 10 toppers were awardedon annual function day of the college.

            3.ThisFree of Cost Blog has served dual purpose of providing digital library serviceand also news updates of college activities in time when our old website wascrashed due to shortage of fund.

            1.Thefirst major problem was how students which are belonging to poor families canafford smart phones.

            2.Secondwas how to provide internet facilities for students so that they can visitdigital platform.

            3.And third how to motivate studentsfor using this digital platform for knowledge sharing.

These problems got an answer when the state government haslaunched Sanchar Kranti Yojna (SKY) to facilitate people with smart phones toremove digital inequality among citizens of rural and low economic urbanbackground, under this program 285 students of our college has also got smartphones. Free Wi-Fi facilities at college were launched under Government NMECITprogram has helped to provide internet facility for students. The constantmotivation by our faculty and librarian has inspired our students to join thegroup and use the facility for knowledge sharing.

2.     Pranayam& Meditation

 

Institutional Distinctiveness

            Thiscollege was established in 2005 at first Girls College in Machewa VillageMahasamund district. The Girls coming to this college from nearby village andtehsils of Mahasamund belongs to low economics group their families to enrollfor higher education. Hence the college administration worked continues toprovide academic excellence to these students. NSS and YRC unit are activelyworking to strengthen their confidence and to make them a responsible citizen.All though till data there is no full time sports officer in the college butthe Girls performed well in inter college sports and few have coined their nameat university, regional and national level . The entire teaching department arefully devoted to help their students and it’s their continuous mentoring thathas increased the gross enrollment rate of student entering in PG classes orprofessional course like BED, DED, Nursing, police  etc.

 

 


 

 

Title of the practice:  Daily Meditationand Prayanam Session.

 

Objectiveof the practice – the main motivebehind this practice was to educate students about importance of physical andmental well being. College students feel anxious and stress while trying tojuggle new college life, new friends, parents, society and peer pressure andsome time they bounce back negatively which can be observed as depression intheir academic performance and indulgence in bad habits.

 

The Practice:- The practice was initiated day the collegeadministration for students in November,2017. The college time table wasmodified to incorporate a 10 min meditation session which include Anolom-Vilom,Kapalbhati, Bhrastika Pranayam, Bhramri and Dhyan for 2 min each. The sessionstarts will single bell  at 12:00 noonand students perform the activity in their own class under the guidance ofteacher and a volunteer (preferably from their own class). Annually smallworkshop was organized in the beginning of session to train the newcomersof   the college and refresh the elderstudents. From July 2019 central audio facility has been initiated.

Context

Prayanam is not asimple breathing excercise but it is a scientific process of controlling thebreath to connect physical and mental aura. It is one of the most importantvital components of yoga that directly and indirectly affects the processfunctioning of different systems of the body.As per  the documents available regular Pranayamshows beneficial impact on respiratory system, cirulatory system and endocrinesystem. It   ensures more oxygen to lungswhich is good for heart and brain.

Prayanam can bepracticed at any place that is well ventilated, clean and  free from external disturbances and at least1 hour after meal. Prayanam is usually practiced while sitting on a mat onclean floor but can also be done while sitting in a chair. The major benefitsof exercising   Prayanam is

·       It controls and makesblood circulation smooth.

·       Helps in weightregulation.

·        It provide lightness to the body and act asdisease destructor by boosting immunity.

·       Prayanam helps inlungs expansion there by improves its efficiency and vigor.

·       It brings stillnessand calmness to the mind increased concentration and stability of mind

·       Help to ease stress,anxiety and tension it also helps to ease depression, dullness and lethargy.

 

Evidenceof success: - After theimplementation of this practice we noticed that student feel calmness and focusesbetter in studies.

 

Problemencountered and resources required

·       The first problemencountered with this idea was how to train students for yoga practices.

·       Second problem how andwhen this practice can be incorporate in their daily routine.

·       Third and foremostimportant hurdle was how to motivates students and involve fully in thissession.

·       As far as resourcesare concerns the college needs at least a part time yoga instructor and aphysical facility like mike, Dari and sound system.

 

Initiativestaken to address the above problems: 

·       Training program wasorganized to train students and faculty to overcome the first problem.

·       A ten minute shortperiod was added in time table to practice meditation and Pranayam.

·       The student acceptedthe idea and involve volunatrily in the activity.

·       Mike and sound systemwas purchased from the fund recieved
